So, how much fun can you have making a junk journal? I can tell you, it's a whole lot of fun! I enjoyed making this journal so, so much. I made my covers from recycled corrugated cardboard, and then made inside pages from a variety of things: Cereal boxes, food packaging, acetate pockets, clothing tags, business envelopes ... you name it, it's in there.
I used a Tim Holtz die to cut a tab and added the word 'junk' using my vintage typewriter:
I put some of my new-found doodling skills to use on my background. Did you spot the colour wheel? I LOVE colour wheels, and have long admired wonderful journal pages by Mary as she adds them to her pages all the time. I also recently spotted some on Danielle Daniel's fabulous blog too. I even have a Pinterest board just for colour wheels :-))
I wanted my journal to be spiral bound (*Smash* style), but then I covered the binding with Claudine Hellmuth's sticky back canvas (after decorating it, of course):
Here are some of the internal pages ... all a work-in-progress:
Some clothing tags are fabulous and far too nice to throw away... I added some of mine to a page after decorating with stamps by Tim Holtz, and Invoke Arts:
I added an acetate pocket (one of those clear bags you can use to present your hand-made cards in!) for all of my useful collectibles, and also added a recycled business envelope. I love the way it has 'private' written on it LOL!
I decided to scan some of my previous journal backgrounds and use them as new backgrounds in my junk journal:
And I also scanned and used some of my doodled faces from my Art Doodle Love book (by Dawn DeVries Sokol):
And finally, just to give you an idea of size, here's a cheeky pic of me holding my new junk journal!
I'll be teaching this project at The Craft Den (Sheffield,UK) in a couple of weeks. Anyone fancy joining us? See *here* for all the details. If you are coming along to that class, don't forget to bring some junk along with you ... cardboard, cereal boxes, clothing tags, tickets, old envelopes, etc etc!)
Byee for now :-)
